What’s inside

1–9

Medical bills & insurance

Read a “this is not a bill” insurance letter, check the bill against it, ask for an itemized bill and check it line by line, a billing-office phone script, ask about financial assistance and a payment plan, understand a denial, and compare a bill to your Good Faith Estimate if you have no insurance.

10–14

Leases & housing letters

Read a lease before you sign, a renewal or rent-increase letter, a move-out and deposit checklist, a notice from your landlord, and a mortgage escrow statement.

15–20

Government, tax & benefits

Read an IRS notice and compare it to your return, a Social Security letter, a Medicare notice, a benefits renewal letter, and check whether a government letter is real before you act.

21–24

School notices & forms

What you’re agreeing to on a school form, a letter about attendance, grades, or behavior, a special education or evaluation notice, and a school form’s questions in your own language.

25–29

Fine print & subscriptions

Find the cancellation rules, check a free trial before you sign up, read a warranty or service plan, cancel with a paper trail, and decode a “we’re changing our terms” email.

30–33

Utility, phone & internet

Check a phone bill line by line for charges you didn’t order, find out why a utility bill went up, catch a promo ending, and read a past-due or shut-off notice.

34–36

Is this letter a scam?

Check a letter, bill, or invoice against the FTC’s four signs of a scam, read a debt collection letter, and make a “verify before I pay” plan.

37–40

Deadlines & paper trail

Turn a pile of letters into one deadline list, know what to keep and for how long, keep a problem log, and confirm a phone call in writing.

Copied exactly from the PDF. Black out your private details, then paste one into any chat AI and fill in the [BRACKETS].

Script 2: Check the bill against the insurance letter

Goal: Catch a mismatch before you pay. This is the flagship script.

I have two papers about the same medical visit. Names and account numbers are blacked out. INSURANCE LETTER (EOB): [PASTE EOB TEXT] BILL FROM THE PROVIDER: [PASTE BILL TEXT] Compare them: 1) Same date(s), same provider, same services? List any that appear on only one paper. 2) What the bill says I owe vs. what the insurance letter says I may owe. Show both numbers. 3) If they don't match, list possible reasons (e.g. claim not processed yet, a payment not applied, a billing error) and the exact questions to ask the billing office before paying. 4) Any due date on the bill. Only use what's in the two texts. Write "not stated" for anything missing. Don't tell me whether to pay.

Tip: CMS's guide to reading an EOB says your bill shouldn't be higher than the patient balance on the EOB. If it is, talk to your provider.

Script 20: Is this government letter real? Verify before acting

Goal: Know how to confirm a letter without using its contact details.

Here is a letter that claims to be from [AGENCY, e.g. IRS / Social Security / Medicare / my state]. Names and ID numbers are blacked out. [PASTE LETTER TEXT] 1) List what the letter asks for: money, personal information, a call, a click, or a reply 2) List anything that matches common scam signs: pressure to act now, threats, a specific way to pay (gift card, crypto, wire, payment app, cash), secrecy 3) A safe plan to check the letter WITHOUT using any phone number, website, or QR code printed in it: where I can find the official contact myself 4) What to say when I reach the real agency, in 2 sentences Only use what's in the letter. Don't tell me it's real or fake for sure. Give me a way to check. Write "not stated" for anything missing.

Tip: Look up the agency yourself on its .gov website, or use a number from a letter you know is real. Official numbers: IRS 800-829-1040, Social Security 1-800-772-1213, Medicare 1-800-633-4227. Report fake ones at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.

Script 30: Line-by-line phone bill check

Goal: Find charges you didn't sign up for.

Here is my phone bill. Phone and account numbers are blacked out. [PASTE BILL TEXT] My plan, as I understand it: [E.G. "2 lines, unlimited, $80 a month"] 1) A table: each charge, what it is in plain words, monthly or one-time 2) Flag: vague names (e.g. "service fee", "membership", "premium"), third-party companies, add-ons, and anything that doesn't match my plan 3) The total vs. what I expected, and the difference 4) A short script to ask the phone company to explain or remove flagged charges Only use the bill. Write "not stated" for missing details.

Tip: The FCC calls unauthorized charges on a phone bill "cramming", and they're often small, like $1 to $3 a month. Ask the phone company to remove them. If it won't, you can file a complaint at fcc.gov/complaints and choose "Cramming".

Frequently asked questions

Which AI tools does it work with?

It’s set up for the free version of ChatGPT, and it works with any chat AI, including Claude and Gemini. The scripts are plain text with fill-in [BRACKETS].

Do I need to upload my bills or letters?

No. Each script asks you to paste or type the text. That keeps you from sharing a photo with numbers you forgot to hide, and it works within the free ChatGPT plan’s small daily upload limit. The pack shows how to use a Temporary Chat, which isn’t saved to your history.

What should I keep private?

Before you paste, black out names, addresses, dates of birth, and every account, member, claim, policy, Medicare, and Social Security number. Never paste passwords, PINs, or full card numbers.

Is this legal, medical, or tax advice?

No. It’s a reading guide. It helps you understand a paper and work out what to ask. Every script tells the AI to use only your text and to say “not stated” when something is missing. Check anything important with the company or agency, using a phone number you look up yourself.

Can it tell me whether a letter is a scam?

It can point out warning signs, using the four signs of a scam the FTC lists, and give you a safe way to check. It can’t promise a letter is real or fake. The scripts never use a phone number, link, or QR code from the letter itself.

What exactly do I get?

A 22-page PDF with 40 scripts in 8 sections (medical bills and insurance, leases and housing letters, government, tax and benefits letters, school notices and forms, fine print and subscriptions, utility, phone and internet bills, scam checks, deadlines and paper trail), plus a how-to-use page, privacy steps, a tweak guide, and a list of the official sources behind the tips. It’s a one-time purchase with an instant download.

What if it isn’t for me?

Refunds follow the policy shown at checkout. You can also try the free drills first; they use the same format.

Who it’s for

Parents, retirees, caregivers, and anyone who has a stack of bills and letters and wants to understand them before calling, paying, or signing. No AI experience needed.

Honest limits

AI can misread a paper or make things up, which is why every script tells it to stick to your text. It doesn’t know your plan, your lease, or your state’s rules, and it can’t tell you whether to pay. Check amounts, dates, and deadlines with the company or agency, using a number you look up yourself. Nothing here is legal, medical, tax, or financial advice. For court papers, eviction notices, or large debts, talk to a person who can help, such as legal aid.

Want to try first? The free drills use the same format, and the blog has step-by-step guides.
